My Bio
FROM WIKIPEDIA:

"The term outsider art was coined by art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972 as an English synonym for art brut (French: [aʁ bʁyt], "raw art" or "rough art"), a label created by French artist Jean Dubuffet to describe art created outside the boundaries of official culture; Dubuffet focused particularly on art by insane-asylum inmates.[1]

While Dubuffet's term is quite specific, the English term "outsider art" is often applied more broadly, to include certain self-taught orNaïve art makers who were never institutionalized. Typically, those labeled as outsider artists have little or no contact with the mainstream art world or art institutions. In many cases, their work is discovered only after their deaths. Often, outsider art illustrates extreme mental states, unconventional ideas, or elaborate fantasy worlds.

Outsider art has emerged as a successful art marketing category (an annual Outsider Art Fair has taken place in New York since 1992). The term is sometimes misapplied as a catch-all marketing label for art created by people outside the mainstream "art world," regardless of their circumstances or the content of their work."

Ahem. Okay, so "insane" may not describe the artist in question here, but Strickland is certainly a self-taught artist that works outside of any mainstream institutions. His work does illustrate "extreme mental states, unconventional ideas, or elaborate fantasy worlds." He desperately hopes to be discovered before he's dead.

The artist lives in Newport, KY with his wife, Elizabeth. He spends his time selling books, making art, and making music with his new band, Felon Friendly. He spends way too much time on Facebook.

Shiny Red Nothing is the umbrella under which you'll find artist, Jeremiah Strickland. Strickland is also a musician, writer, actor, filmmaker, lay philosopher, and eccentric weirdo. He lives and works in Northern Kentucky with his wife, Elizabeth. "Silk of Red Esteem" was recorded in his living room, utilizing a shitty acoustic guitar and Garageband on his Macbook Pro. The music is an eclectic mix of fucked-up folk, heavy blues, indie rock, and punk that would best be classified as "Blackgrass." It's available for free here: http://archive.org/details/GodInTights Melissa Bingle provided the lovely back-up vocals. For more information or j

After recording their sophomore effort, "That Old Kentucky Blackgrass" in the winter of 2007, the

Once upon a time, I was in a pretty sweet indie-rock band called The Minni-Thins. We had a good run; played SXSW, won a Cincinnati Entertainment Award, toured the country, recorded two albums... Only the second album, "That Old Kentucky Blackgrass," was never released. Here, for the first time since 2005, is a new Minni-Thins single (culled from the Blackgrass sessions). Happy Halloween. Cheers! http://www.archive.org/details/ChorusOfTheZombieApocalypso In 2006, The Minni-Thins recorded their sophomore album, That Old Kentucky Blackgrass. It was never released. However, in October of 2007, The Minnis played a Halloween show in Cincinnati, O
